Preparations for the 2004 ECT in Full Swing

NYC Floorball is preparing for the second annual East Coast Tournament in Raleigh, NC, which is organized by the Triangle Floorball Club. The ECT scheduled for Labor Day weekend, September 4-6, is the second and last leg of the North American Championship. The first part was the Canada Cup, which was played in Toronto last April. The combined score of these two tournaments will determine the first-ever club champions in North America. After winning the Canada Cup, NYC Floorball is in a great position to claim The overall title, but with strong teams from all over the continent participating, the stage is set for a thrilling final.

With NYC Floorball's indoor facilities closed for the summer, the club has taken practice to the streets of New York. Captain Micael Holmstrom is preparing the team for the ECT by arranging play every weekend just east of the Sheep Meadow in the southern part of Central Park.

Floorball is growing by leaps and bounds in the US and Canada at present and NYC Floorball is pushing for the establishment of a permanent North American league, perhaps to be divided into three or four tournaments played over the course of one year initially. New York city would be an excellent venue for at least one part much thanks to its international population many of whom are already very familiar with the game.
