NYC Floorball claims silver in the East Coast Tournament and North American Championship
The rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox was transposed to floorball in this year’s East Coast Tournament (ECT), which was held in Raleigh, NC, over the labor-day weekend in early September. After winning their group and the semifinal comfortably, NYC Floorball suffered a very disappointing loss in the final to a highly charged-up Boston Puukadet. The Boston team, which consists mainly of dedicated players traveling from Finland, also won their group comfortably, but had troubles in the semifinal against the host team, the Triangle Floorball Club (TFC).
In the match against the Boston Puukadet, NYC Floorball had roughly 75% of the possession of the ball, double the shots on goal, and about triple the shots grazing the net, but failed to capitalize on their opportunities. The match saw mixed play with one Boston player having to leave the rink for the remainder of the game after receiving a match penalty for charging. Through its second place in the East Coast Tournament, NYC Floorball claimed the silver in the first-ever North American Floorball Championship.
NYC Floorball’s players continue to put up outstanding performances with its Captain, Micael Holmström, again receiving the award for most points scored in the tournament and Christer Olsson selected as the best goalie of the tournament.
NYC Floorball extends its thanks to the host team, the Triangle Floorball Club, and all the referees for an excellent tournament. All New York’s members are looking forward to coming back next year!
